Captain Pike, Mr Spock and Number One are on the cover of SFX 366, as we look forward to the return of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

Below we run down some of the highlights of the issue. UK readers, don't forget: you can use this store locator to find a stockist near you, or order a copy online for the same price it is in the shops.

The crew of the Enterprise are back, for more good old-fashioned episodic adventures. In an eight-page feature, we apply the thumbscrews* to showrunner Akiva Goldsman to try and find out what's in store for season two. (*Thumbscrews purely metaphorical)

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

The revolutionary animated film has spawned a Spidey-sequel. We quiz directors Joaquim Dos Santos and Kemp Powers, and speak to Shameik Moore (voice of Miles Morales). Anyone else got that Beatles song in their head now?

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts

Bumblebee and Cheetor in car/cheetah form.

The latest additions to the Transformers movies have bestial alternate forms, not automotive ones: gorilla, cheetah, rhino… Director Steven Caple Jr and executive producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura talk about bringing the Maximals to the big screen – and filming atop an Inca city! We forgot to ask actors Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback if there were adequate toilet facilities.

Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai

The classic Joe Dante movies are getting an animated prequel series! Executive producers Tze Chun and Brendan Hay explain how they went about it. We also speak to Dante himself – and voice of Gizmo AJ LoCascio, who must be popular at parties with a trick like that.

The Walking Dead: Dead City

Maggie, Negan and a third character on a New York street, all looking up.

Maggie and Negan are teaming up for a trip to a zombie-infested Big Apple, and something tells us they won't be singing songs and toasting marshmallows around the campfire… We quiz showrunner Eli Jorné and the stars of this new six-part series, Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan

The City of Lost Children

Clones, conjoined twins, a brain in a tank and Ron Perlman all featured in this stylish French fantasy from 1995. Nous parlons aux réalisateurs Jean-Pierre Jeunet et Marc Caro. (Okay, talk very slowly in English like your typical Rosbif en vacances…)

And that's not all, feature-wise! We also speak to director Rob Marshall about his live-action version of The Little Mermaid. Rob Savage tells us about stepping up from lockdown hit Host to adapting a Stephen King short story for The Boogeyman. Our run of Doctor Who articles in the lead up to the 60th anniversary continues as we speak to a collector we are, frankly, incredibly jealous of. We also roundup everything we learned at Star Wars Celebration, chat to Shadow And Bone star Ben Barnes, profile up-and-coming SF writer Temi Oh, and get Christopher Priest to fill in our author questionnaire.

And the big features are just the tip of the iceberg! As ever, our news section, Red Alert, is crammed with insights into yet more movies, TV shows, comics and books. In the spotlight this month: Ari Aster's new film Beau Is Afraid; Pixar movie Elemental; ITV horror-comedy show Count Abdulla; Marvel's latest Pride comic; and new Alien, Vampirella and Loki titles.
